Austin ISD is gearing up for the total solar eclipse on April 8, and that means offering free eclipse viewing glasses to all students and staff.

According to a newsletter sent to families, glasses started arriving at campuses the week of Feb. 5.

“We’re aiming for 100% of Austin ISD campuses offering students a front-row seat to witness this rare phenomenon firsthand,” AISD said in the newsletter.

Staff will have a guide on how to engage in the experience. It will include a timeline as well as classroom activities and safety tips.

“While all Austin ISD campuses are in the path of the eclipse, two of our campuses, Blazier and Palm Elementary, are on the edge and will still have a wonderful viewing experience of the partial eclipse,” the district said.

AISD has a countdown to the eclipse on its website.
